Obituary & Funeral Records Database

The SVGS Obituary Committee has collected over 170,000 obituaries, death notices and/or funeral programs from regional newspapers serving southeastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa; these are listed in this database, to be linked soon. Also included in this database are obituaries from the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls and miscellaneous cemetery and funeral home records which have been donated. Various files in the SVGS Library that may contain obituaries include Pioneer Certificate Applications and Correspondence Files. Obituaries come from small town donated newspapers.

The obituaries can be viewed in the SVGS Library, 200 West 6th St., Sioux Falls.
We are located in the Old Courthouse Museum, 2nd floor.
The library is usually open Monday thru Friday from 12 Noon to 4 PM.
